Reasons for the Oilers to Keep Stuart Skinner

Hey there! I just read that article about the Oilers and Stuart Skinner, and I have to say, I completely agree with the points made. Trading Skinner right now would be a huge mistake for the Oilers.

First off, his cap hit is incredibly manageable, especially in a salary cap world where every dollar counts. At $2.6 million, he’s a bargain compared to some of the bloated contracts out there. Plus, he’s shown he can bounce back from a rough start, as evidenced by his stellar performance last season.

The Oilers have bigger fish to fry, like addressing their defensive needs. They need a solid top-four defenseman to complement Darnell Nurse, and that should be their priority. The inconsistency of goalies is a real gamble; just look at the examples of Ullmark and Swayman. You never know how a new goalie will adapt to a different system, and losing Skinner could mean losing a reliable option in net.

In my opinion, the Oilers should focus on building around Skinner rather than trading him away. He’s still young and has the potential to be a key player for them moving forward. It’s all about making smart moves that will set them up for success in the long run, and keeping Skinner is definitely part of that strategy! What do you think?
