Hey there! The situation with the New York Islanders is definitely concerning, especially with the injuries piling up. Mike Reilly's heart surgery is a serious matter, and it’s tough to see a player go through that. The fact that they’re missing key players like Mathew Barzal and Anthony Duclair for an extended period really puts pressure on the rest of the team.
I think Lou Lamoriello has a tough decision ahead of him. While Isaiah George has stepped up, relying on AHL call-ups might not be enough to keep the defense solid. The idea of bringing in a veteran like Ryan Suter or Alec Martinez could provide some stability, but I agree that it might not be the best long-term solution given their age. Ivan Provorov could be a game-changer, but the asking price might be steep.
The Islanders need to tread water in the next few games, and I believe their top line has to step up big time. Bo Horvat, Anders Lee, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau have to carry the load offensively until Barzal and Duclair return. If they can manage to stay competitive, it could set them up nicely for a stronger second half of the season.
What do you think? Do you believe they should go all in for a trade, or should they focus on getting their injured players back and see how they perform?
